Sermon: Jesus and Hanukkah

This is the audio (31:10, 28.5 MB) of a sermon delivered at First Presbyterian Church of Norristown, PA, entitled, “A Newer, Truer Hope.” The text is John 10:22-39, which describes an encounter between Jesus and zealous Jews on the occasion of the Feast of Dedication (Hanukkah). Here is an excerpt:

I believe it’s important for Christians and Jews to understand why Hanukkah was significant for Jesus and his followers. My message compares two sorts of hope: the hope that inspired the very first Hanukkah celebration nearly 2,200 years ago, and the hope of eternal life that Jesus offers to all who trust in him.
